Pakistan is in the headlines once again. But this time it is not about terrorist incidents but about its new censorship law. Google has said that if Pakistan does not change its new censorship law then Google will leave Pakistan. Apart from this, social media companies like Facebook Twitter have said the same. Social media companies say that the new censorship law is an attack on the privacy of the people of Pakistan. In such a situation, if Pakistan does not change its new censorship laws, then these tech companies will have no other way than to leave Pakistan.
The Asia Internet Council on Censorship Act not brought to Pakistan has said that it is an attack on the privacy of the people of Pakistan. And Pakistan should think again on these new internet laws. And necessary changes should be made in these.
According to the censorship laws brought in Pakistan for tech and sicial media companies, anyone can consider the content objectionable. And companies have to remove this content from their platform within 24 hours. If anyone in Pakistan has to provide a complaint platform to these internet provider companies to remove objectionable content on Facebook Twitter Instagram Google.
These tech companies will have only 6 hours to remove objectionable content in the emergency. If companies like Facebook Twitter and Google do not abide by these laws then a fine of five ₹ 500000000 can be imposed.
Apart from this, other things have also been said in the new Internet Censorship Act by Pakistan. According to the new law, now tech companies have to open their offices in Pakistan. Apart from this, the data of the users of Pakistan will also have to be kept in the local server of Pakistan.
If the security agencies of Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan demand a user’s data from companies, then it has to be given to the government in decrypted format. Tech companies cannot deny this. Pakistan’s new Internet censorship law states that the data of people living outside Pakistan will also have to be given to the government by companies like Facebook Google and Twitter.
Pakistan Google Facebook and Twitter have come face to face with this matter. Facebook Twitter and Google also said in the month of February that if Pakistan does not change its new censorship laws then we will be forced to leave Pakistan. However, these threats do not seem to have any effect on Pakistan.
